Three gold, three silver and one bronze medal for the South African swimming team at the All Africa Games
Brazzaville, Wednesday, 9th September 2015 – With seven medals (three gold, three silver and one bronze) out of six races, the fourth day of the aquatics programme at the 11th All Africa Games in Brazzaville concluded on a high note for the South African swimming team.

In the 100m breaststroke, it was Pretoria’s Tatjana Schoenmaker who came out tops in 1:09.47, just under two seconds ahead of Egypt’s Maii Atif in 1:11.07 and Namibia’s Daniela Lindemeier in 1:11.31.
Ayrton Sweeney’s quick start won him the gold in the 200m breaststroke in 2:14.41 with the silver going to Tunisia’s Wassim Elloumi in 2:17.80 and the bronze to Egypt’s Yossif Elkamash in 2:19.03.
In the closely contested 400m freestyle race, Myles Brown finished with the silver medal in 3:48.69, while the gold went to Egypt’s Ahmed Akram in 3:48.06 and the bronze to Tunisia’s Ahmed Mathlouti in 3:51.47.


Vanessa Mohr and Rita Naude secured the silver and bronze in the 100m butterfly in 1:00.26 and 1:03.86 respectively. The gold in the event was claimed by Egypt’s Farida Osman in 58.83.
In the 800m freestyle, KZN’s Charlise Oberholzer was overjoyed when she won the silver medal, finishing with a time of 9:00.15 behind Algeria’s Majda Chebaraka in 8:58.53 and ahead of Egypt’s Roaia Mashaly in 9:07.94.


In the men’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay, Calvyn Justus, Clayton Jimmie, Caydon Muller and Douglas Erasmus could not be stopped. Leading from the word go, they finished with a time of 3:19.69, while Egypt and Algeria ended with the silver and bronze respectively.
