Three gold medals for the South African swimming team in Moscow
The unstoppable Chad le Clos made his way to the top of the medal podium in the 100m freestyle with a fast 48.16, dipping under the Olympic A Qualification requirement of 48.99.
The silver and bronze medals went to Russia’s Nikita Lobintsev in 48.58 and Danila Izotov in 48.59, respectively.
Earlier on in the morning heats session, Le Clos finished in 12th place in the 50m butterfly with a time of 24.46.
In the 400m freestyle, Myles Brown was on top of the world as he claimed the gold medal with an Olympic A Qualification time of 3:48.52, over a second ahead of France’s Jordan Pothain in 3:49.66 and Damien Joly in 3:50.55.
Cameron van der Burgh was on point in the 50m breaststroke, winning the race with a time of 26.96 ahead of Peter John Stevens from Slovenia in 27.46 and Brendan Mchugh from the USA in 27.71.
The Moscow leg of the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup concludes tomorrow with Van der Burgh in action in the 100m breaststroke, while Le Clos will take on the 100m butterfly and Brown the 200m freestyle.
