The final day of the SA Level 3 National Age Group Swimming Championships
Port Elizabeth, Tuesday, 22nd March 2016 - The final day of the SA Level 3 National Age Group Swimming Championships concluded in record breaking style at the Newton Park Swimming Pool in Port Elizabeth.

Cape Town’s Luan Grobbelaar (14) broke Brenden Crawford’s 2011 Age Group record in the 200m breaststroke, clocking a golden 2:25.72 to the old time of 2:26.43.

Grobbelaar also claimed the gold medal in the 200m backstroke in 2:12.82.

KZN’s Luca Holtzhausen (12) finished off the competition with an additional two gold medals in the 200m breaststroke in 2:43.07 and the 200m backstroke in 2:23.75, while his first silver medal came from the 100m butterfly race in 1:05.99, bringing his total to an amazing twelve gold and one silver.

Winning double on the night was 13 year old Rebecca Meder, touching the wall in a fast 2:39.67 in the 200m breaststroke and 2:23.85 in the 200m backstroke, while Ruan Breytenbach (13) was also victorious on two occasions, scooping the gold in the 100m butterfly in 59.92 and the 200m breaststroke in 2:27.93.

The next Swimming SA competitions will be the SA Level 1 and 2 Regional Age Group Championships, which will take place as follows:

• Level 2 – Cape Town and Johannesburg – 28 – 31 March 2016
• Level 1 and 2 – Durban – 31 March – 1 April 2016
• Level 1 – Cape Town and Johannesburg – 1 – 3 April 2016
