SSA Joins the Fight against Xenophobia in South Africa

Swimming South Africa as the official governing body of aquatic sports in the country, strongly condemns this atrocious act against all members of our society.

In the recent past our country witnessed some of the most barbaric acts of prejudice and stereotypes perpetuated by a few unruly, misinformed and criminal elements in the form of xenophobic attacks against non South African nationals. In response to this and among many others action points, the President, His Excellency Mr. Jacob Zuma appealed to all sectors of society to join forces to combat these unfortunate tendencies and ensure these ugly acts never recur.

This engagement is intended to provide a joint platform for sport people and cultural practitioners alike to add their voices in discouraging any form of violence and hate speech that violates human rights which forms the integral cornerstone of our maturing democracy in South Africa.

We can all learn from the wise words from Mr. Nelson Mandela on being better citizens said Mr. Jace Naidoo, SSA President as he quoted the former President.

“No one is born hating another person because of his skin or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
