Day 03 of the CANA Zone IV Junior Swimming Championships in Malawi
Malawi, Friday, 23rd March 2018 - Eight gold, five silver and four bronze for the South African swimming team as the second last day of the CANA Zone IV Swimming Championships came to a close in Malawi tonight.

There was no stopping 16 year old JP Seyffert as he bagged two more gold medals, winning the 400m freestyle in 4:15.88 ahead of Mauritius’ Ryan Kok Shun in 4:17.32 and Botswana’s Andile Bekker in 4:17.44 and the 200m backstroke in 2:11.36, followed by Kok Shun in 2:16.13 and Bekker in 2:16.90.

Seyffert also scooped the bronze in the 100m butterfly in 59.00, behind team-mate Rogan Shepherd, who won the silver in 58.24, as well as the silver in the 100m breaststroke in 1:05.36.

14 year old Keagon Mnyaka continued to showcase his skills in the pool, claiming gold in the 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke races in 1:00.95 and 1:11.56, respectively, while in the 200m backstroke, 14 year old Faiyaz Adams finished with the silver medal in 2:19.77.

In the U14 400m freestyle, Lize-Marie Davidson (14) and Hannah Cromhout (14) added the silver and bronze medals to their tally, clocking 4:40.65 and 4:51.36, respectively, while in the 15 and over age group, Chenay Date Line (16) managed a third place finish with a time of 4:51.39.

Davidson went one better in the 200m backstroke, winning the event in 2:26.42.

Later on in the day finals, Date Line celebrated a well deserved gold in the 100m butterfly, clocking a fast 1:10.49, over 6secs ahead of Botswana’s Ruvarashe Gondo in 1:17.88 and Swaziland’s Nadia Volschank in 1:19.48.

Ashton Volkwyn (15) walked away with the top spot in the 100m breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:19.28.

In the U14 4 x 100m mixed medley relay, Adams, Mnyaka, Cromhout and Candice Clifton-Smith celebrated their first place finish in 4:30.16, while in the 15 and over mixed relay, Seyffert, Volkwyn, Shepherd and Date Line took home the silver in 4:16.96.

In the 4 x 100m freestyle relay event, Adams, Mnyaka, Seyffert and Shepherd won the bronze in 3:46.49.

Tomorrow’s final day will start at 09h00.
