South Africa was tireless and presented strong opposition in many areas of the pool beating Argentina by 10 goals to 6.
Brothers Etienne and Pierre le Roux were the toast of the Mzansi team after scoring three goals each. The rest of the goals came from Devon Card (one), Ignardus Badenhosrt (one), Nicholas Hock (one) and Jon Marc De Carvalho (one).

The Argentineans got their goals through Ramiro Veich (two) and German Yanez (three) and Tomas Bulgheroni (one).

“I am extremely proud of the team and their approach to this game. There was a lot of pressure on us to win the game against Argentina, as they have a lot of international experience in the build-up to the competition.

“We started extremely well and that set us up for the win in the end.” said the men’s Water Polo team head coach, Paul Martin.

In the 10km Open Water Swimming event, Chad Ho finished in 19th place with a time of 1:50:47.9, with a 59.7secs gab between Ho and the winner Jordan Wilimovsky (1:49:48.2) from the USA.
Daniel Marais was unable to finish the race.
Tomorrow’s programme will feature Emma Manners Wood and Laura Strugnell in the Synchro Duet Free preliminaries, as well as Michelle Weber and Carmen le Roux in the women’s 10km Open Water race.

At the Water Polo Arena, the South African ladies will be taking on Australia in their second match of the Championships.
