SA Swimmers Get Ready for First Leg of Mare Nostrum Series in Canet

The SA swimming contingent will be looking to put in impressive performances in the hope to make their mark when they participate in the 28th International Meeting of Canet en Roussilion in France taking place on June 06 and 07. The Mare Nostrum Tour is one of the most prestigious among the swimming meets all over the world.

Chad le Clos, Erin Gallagher, Myles Brown and national swimming coach Mr Graham Hill are currently in Doha, Qatar, where they have been hard at work with preparation for the first leg of Mare Nostrum series in just 12 days.

Paralympian World Record holder Kevin Paul together with Olympian champion Cameron van der Burgh and Tuks based swimmer Nico Meyer will be leaving early next week for the swimming meet to join the team. A group of Westville swimmers will leave next week Sunday to join the swimming contingent. The swimmers include: Roxanne Leigh Brown, Samantha Mikaela Labuschagne, Evan Lucian Matthysen, Bailey Grant Musgrave, Daniel Oliver Ronaldson, Catherine Claire Sainsbury, Timothy Luke Sates, Reegan Bobbie Taite and Peter Charles Wetzler. Managing the team will be Northern Tigers President Mr Anton Jordaah.

From Canet en Roussillon, the swimmers will proceed to Barcelona, Spain from June 10 and 11, before concluding in Monaco, Monte Carlo June 13 and June 14.

Swimming South Africa’s CEO, Shaun Adriaanse, said “We are extremely happy with the swimmers competing at this years’ Mare Nostrum swimming meet and look forward to them showcasing exceptional world class performances. “

“Following their phenomenal performance at the SA National Aquatic Championships in April, the swimmers are completely focused on preparing themselves both physically and mentally for FINA World Championships.”
