The 2016 Groot Marico Bosveld Myl

The 2016 Groot Marico Bosveld Myl
Johannesburg, Thursday, 29th September 2016 - The Groot Marico Bosveld Myl will usher in the 2016 - 2017 South African summer Open Water season on Saturday 1st October in Groot Marico. Groot Marico is a hamlet in the North West Province where locals invite the Open Water swimming fraternity to experience the Marico Bosveld, home of Oom Schalk Lourens’ stories and the Mecca of Mampoer.

The Groot Marico Bosveld Myl is a family multi-sport festival which embraces Open Water swimming, Cycling and Running. A number of these events are qualifying races, which assist the more serious athletes with competing in other competitions held throughout the year. For the past four years there have been four qualifying events (Running: 42.2 km and 21.1 km, Swimming: 3000m and 1600m).

The event was initiated nine years ago by a group of locals who saw an opportunity to start this Community Event. Their aim was to develop it not only as a sporting event, but also a festival for their Community.

The quant flea market every year attracts a wide range of visitors from far and wide.

Past entertainers include Pieter Koen, ADAM, Lee Scott, Zita and many more. The organizer’s aim is to give old and young what they expect from a festival of this caliber. Their 2016 entertainer will be the young and vibrant Brendan Peyper amongst others.

Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd (Bakwena) is the main sponsor of this Community Event for the past five years and is proud to be part of the well organised Community Festival.

While online entries have closed for the event, late entries will be accepted on the day. The open water swimming program consists on a 3km, 1600m & 500m events. The Groot Marico Bosveld Myl is a Swimming South Africa (SSA) Approved Open Water Swimming (OWS) event. All SSA Approved OWS Events meet the highest safety standards and are run in accordance with the Events Act of 2010. All races at The Groot Marico Bosveld Myl are timed by Championchip.

Full event details can be accessed on The Groot Marico Bosveld Myl website: http://www.maricomyl.co.za & www.swimsa.org

Only times recorded in SSA Approved Events will be considered for entry at the 2017 SA National Aquatic Championships: Open Water Swimming, so enthusiasts will be aiming to target those qualifying times early in the season.

In close proximity to both Johannesburg and Pretoria the event is sure to provide an entertaining full day event or ideal family break-away and spend a whole weekend in the Bosveld, close to Mother Nature while enjoying the event.
