Cameron van der Burgh qualifies for the 100m breaststroke final on the night day of the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan
Kazan, Sunday, 2nd August 2015 – Cameron van der Burgh kicked off the first session of swimming in true Mzansi style on the ninth day of the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan.

In the 100m breaststroke semi-finals, Van der Burgh successfully qualified for tomorrow night’s final when he touched the wall in a time of 58.49, ending in 2nd place.
Van der Burgh set a new Championship Record in the first semi-final event but that time was bettered a few minutes later in the second semi-final by Great Britain’s Adam Peaty, who recorded 58.18 to take the overall first place.


Chad le Clos finished in 14th place in the 50m butterfly semi-finals, clocking 23.49, while Myles Brown was 18th in the 400m freestyle heats in 3:48.86.
Le Clos and Brown will be in action in the 200m freestyle race tomorrow (Monday).


On the men’s Water Polo side, the South African side lost 1 - 17 against Australia with SA’s goal coming from Etienne le Roux while the Australians scored through Aaron Younger (four), Aidan Roach (three), Mitchell Emery (three), Tyler Martin (two), Jarrod Gilchrist (two), Richard Campbell (one), Joel Swift (one) and George Ford (one).
The men’s side will be taking on Brazil for 9 – 12th place classification on Tuesday, 4th August while the ladies will be up against Japan for 15th place classification on Monday, 3rd August.
