18th FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships Wrap Up
Johannesburg, Friday, 11 September 2015, The 18th FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships, that was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, proved to be a good learning curve for the young South African Water Polo players, exposing them to some of the best teams in the world.

The junior team finished bottom of Group A as they faced some though opposition from the likes of Montenegro, Egypt and Croatia, who are ranked 2nd in the world.
The Mzansi boys started off with a narrow 21-12 loss to Montenegro, which was followed by a 24-8 defeat to Egypt and were overcome by a determined Croatian side with 31 goals to 4 in the final preliminary round match.


Uzbekistan was too strong in the final eight round games, beating the South Africans 23-12 and then they lost to Iran 11-15 to see them end last in the 18 team tournament.
Getting on the score sheet were Eastern Province’s Jason Evezard with a total of fourteen goals, Shane Fourie with a close ten, Liam Neill scored eight goals, Tim Rezelman netted six, Roarke Olver scored three, Wyatt Edwards and Nicholas Downes saw two, while Keanan Alexander and Claudio Fernandes had one each.
