Ocean Splash
Purpose
The Ocean Splash programme is aimed at promoting water safety in the ocean and swimming skills development. The course is aimed at people who have experience in water sport or other ocean activities.
Pre-requisite
Participants must have completed the Learn to Swim Instructors course and be a certified registered learn to swim instructor.
Course enrollment
Candidates must contact the Provincial Liaison Officer in the area to make an appointment for their course enrollment. Upon enrollment participants must produce the following documents.
- CPR Certificate
- Learn to Swim Certificate
- Certified Copy of ID
- Two ID size photo’s (colour)
- Must be a registered member of a SSA Provincial Affiliate
- Course Fee of R100
In turn candidates will receive a Course Manual and a course program.
Duration
1 ½ day training programme. Consult your Provincial Liaison Officer for scheduled dates.
Assessment
Participants will be evaluated on day two when each participant will be given a specific practical task to carry out. At the end of the Ocean Splash Course, participants should be able to:
- Explain the value of he Ocean Splash course
- State the ways in which they can contribute to it
- Explain their role as an Ocean Splash Instructor
- Plan and run an Ocean Splash programme
- Demonstrate the different Ocean Splash skills & techniques
- Create a safe environment on the beach and the ocean
- Facilitate in a manner that enables the participants to learn through interactive training sessions
- Work with groups
Certification
Once all the course requirements have been successfully completed candidates will be awarded a Swimming South Africa certificate.
Registration
Instructors are required to register annually with SSA, through their Provincial Association.
